I do believe it has something to do with Visual C++ redistributables (the game uses version 2010). In the Windows event viewer I get an entry about the CloakNTEngine.dll (located in the game folder) that crashes when I start the game. I still get a "bgh_2014.exe has stopped working" message. I tried all your other options to fix this, but it is not working. I have never been able to start the game once, so no save files have been created yet.
